Alumni Scholarship Fund celebrates local student's success!
by Craig Schilperoort, SHS Alumni, Class of 1974
Spring 2019 — When John Kranz called South Kitsap School District Superintendent Karst Brandsma to say he’d gotten his first teaching job; the Sunnyside High School Alumni Scholarship board member was surprised.
“I just want to let them know how much I appreciate their help and that I wanted to give back to a school they spend so much to support,” Kranz explained.
Kranz was also surprised when he found he was speaker phone talking to the entire scholarship board. The Board was currently in the middle of a conference call discussing the 2019 Scholarship Award
Alumni Comes Back to SHS
“I just want to let them know how much I appreciate their help and that I wanted to give back to a school they spend so much to support,” Kranz explained.
As the 2016 scholarship award recipient, Kranz received a $2,500 scholarship to help with his college education. He attended WSU in Pullman and graduated in under 3 years with a teaching degree in Secondary English. “We (the alumni board of directors) were moved, to get a personal thank you”, Brandsma said.
What started almost fifty years ago as a class project for the SHS Class of 1972. It was started by Class President Pedro Marquez and has now grown into a full-fledged Sunnyside High School Alumni undertaking. You can donate HERE!
Mr. Kranz can be found on the second floor of the new wing at Sunnyside High School and his first day of teaching was last fall on August 28, 2019.
Welcome back Mr. Kranz!
