Kaydience Porter is a graduate of the Sunnyside Class of 2021, and was one of two seniors selected to receive a $2,500 scholarship from the Sunnyside High School Alumni Fund. The scholarships will help support their post-secondary education.
Kaydience graduated from Sunnyside HS with a 3.99 GPA and is the oldest of three siblings in her family. Two younger brothers are also enrolled in the Sunnyside School District.
In her scholarship application Kaydience wrote, "As far back as I can remember, this aspiration for helping others has stayed with me throughout the years, only growing stronger and closer to becoming a reality. "
Kaydience's mom, Brandi is a 4th grade teacher at Outlook Elementary in the Sunnyside School District and her dad, Bryan, works for Darigold in Sunnyside. When Kaydience was young she vividly remembers helping her dad manage a threatening health crisis and discovered early her calling to the medical and nursing profession. Her cousins called her "Nurse Kaydi"!
In her scholarship application she wrote, "As far back as I can remember, this aspiration for helping others has stayed with me throughout the years, only growing stronger and closer to becoming a reality. "
Kaydience will be enrolled in the nursing program at Washington State University this coming fall. She hopes to complete her first 2 years in Pullman before
transferring closer to home and completing her undergraduate requirements at the WSU Campus in the Tri-Cities. As far as she knows, she will be the first in her family to wear the "Crimson and Gray".
Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, participation in school activities and community service. The Scholarship Committee awarded Kaydience high marks in all three.
In addition to Honor Society, she was active in student government as ASB Treasurer, Captain of the Varsity Cheerleaders, a member of Miss Sunnyside's Royal Court, a competitive dancer, and a volunteer in many Sunnyside activities, as well as her church. Kaydience likes to hang out with her friends and cares deeply for her pets including her chocolate lab Lily and her 3 newborn pups.
Her philosophy of life can best be summarized in her favorite Dr. Seuss quote, "Sometimes you will never know the value of the moment until it becomes a memory"!
Congratulations to Kaydience Porter!
